For the last several years, fans of The Doctor Who Audio Dramas have been interested not only in what is coming next, but also what has happened in the past. This, of course, refers to the large number of stories which are currently unavailable from the series' earlier years. Both David Segal and producer Douglas Phillips have been champions of bringing these classic stories to the public. The process involved in remastering these older stories is very time consuming. In the early days, many stories were done ad-libbed with actors only given an outline to follow. Additionally, sound effects and incidental music were used sparingly. As stories go through the remastering processes, music and sound effects are added where none existed before, and lines are edited to provide a more stable flow to the scene. Sometimes, entire scenes need to be rerecorded, at which point the original actors (if available and willing) are called back and the scene redone.
